Why we love to run (Guardian article)
Interesting read this and one I’d love to know your own personal answer for. For me, I’d always joke that I run so I can eat what the hell I want but on a serious note I run mainly to lose weight and to keep fit.  I’ve never been a small build, so for me it was never about competing, there’s always going to be someone who’s run further or faster. I run because...

Year end results are in.....
Final post from Beat 2 Hours Took a look at the year end totals this lunchtime, results as follows: 2010 - 327 miles covered (Albeit in 7 months) at an average pace of 11’34 per mile 2011 - 575 miles at average pace of 9’02 per mile 2012 - 547 miles (No August running due to injury) at average 8’51 per mile So in summary, all good.  Going to take this year as it comes, only...

A date with destiny !!
So we finally got to 28th October 2012 and the Nike+ Run to the Beat half marathon. It was finally time to put my money where my mouth is and BEAT 2 HOURS !!! My last post was in the midst of my shortened training plan, 8 weeks training rather than 12 due to a calf tear at the end of July.  My concerns were that I was ok up to 10k distance to maintain the pace I was after (9 minute miles or...

Back on the road - RunOwl "flies" again
So at last it’s nice to have a serious post about running for once, rather than the doom and gloom of injury. I’ve now got just under two weeks to go (12 days actually) until the Run to the Beat race !! SCARY indeed !! How have I progressed so far??   Well first and as many have reminded me, I am very thankful that I’ve been able to get running again.  I’ve...

So then, it's been a while :-(
Hi everyone, Has been a bit of time since I last blogged, most of that I can put down to injury, then the following ensuing moods. In my last blog, I’d got a calf strain in the week prior to the British 10k event. Well I just about managed to get through the race, finishing with a clock time of 56:54 (Although GPS watch had me totally different ??).  However, during that run, around...

Frustrations again......This time INJURY !!
Just a quick placeholder more than the full article as it’s been a while since last blog. What happens, literally 5 days before the British 10k, out for a run with Run Dem Crew and probably not even quarter mile away from getting back to base at the end of a 6 mile run, I feel my calf pull/strain/tear :’-(  (Quite literally felt a separation take place in the muscle itself)....

2012 - The halfway point
So then guys, I write this post to you all at six months into 2012. A tonne of stuff has happened so far this year, it’s flown by and pretty much blows the mind.  Not all of it running related either !! Firstly, only one thing this year will top my wife getting pregnant and that will be when our baby arrives in December. Such amazing news and we’re so blessed. In other news,...

British 10k - 3 weeks to go people !!
Happy Monday all. For those of you running the British 10k in 3 weeks time, this should be your last week of long distances. You should be running no more distance than last week, if anything slightly less.  After this week you will be in the taper phase of training, so you shouldn’t be needing to run as much, instead concentrating on building speed and finalising your technique. Try...

Where I run.....and why it's a great run
Much of what I write has been about how I find my running but I’d like to run through where I run and why it’s such a cool place to run around. So my lunchtime run routes are around the Embankment/Southbank area of Westminster, mainly as I work at Charing Cross. So to complete this piece, I decided to take my little mobile phone out and record some quick video and take some...

Somethings starting to click !!
Well guys, two days ago I posted because I ran a new PB for 5k distance, 25 minutes 7 seconds. So today, I go out for a lunchtime 4.5 mile run. By the end of it, I’ve broken all PB’s I could in that distance. So we now have: Fastest kilometer - 4’03 Fastest mile - 6’59 Fastest 5k - 24’05 So something is working somewhere and I’m a happy bunny as a...

New programme, one week in....
So I’m now on the 10k intermediate level training programme.  The 10k basic finished with no major problems, however I didn’t take it too seriously and therefore didn’t get as much out of it as I maybe should have.  However, it did get me running regularly again and running in Free’s. Good thing was that the rest weeks between programmes coincided nicely with a Covent...

Wow, what a week !!!
So firstly, Do Life came to the UK (31st March 2012).  Such a great experience to meet Ben Davis and his family, having watched his video on you tube just after I’d started running. The guys were really nice people to meet and just normal everyday guys that had simply got running and kept going, probably the hardest thing to do when you’re not the smallest size. Great to meet...

Nike SuperNatural Run
Tonight I get to run with Dai Greeneand and Paula Radcliffe. Then a Q and A session with them and Steve Cram afterwards. How cool is that !!  Taking the new free run’s for their second run, then back to the box for them. Thanks to Nike Running UK

bendoeslife: Some more snapshots from the day.  We ran for 45 minutes or so, then moseyed our way over to Wetherspoon’s for a two and a half hour lunch. Laughs, beers, chicken strips and English accents abound.  A perfect day.

One down, at least two more to go....
So I write this post the week after my first training programme of 2012 has finished. Have learnt a lot so far in twelve weeks. - Forefoot running makes you run quicker and feels a lot nicer on your joints. Does take a bit of getting used to. - I like my Free Run 2’s.  Got the new Free Run ID’s coming in a week or so #CANTWAIT. - Going back to a “normal” running shoe...

Training update
Now at 8 weeks out of the 12 on Nike coach, 104 miles run to date. About two or three runs missed so far. Also passed 1,000 miles synced up to Nike+ !! A video from Paula to say well done too. The start of Feb has meant a Nike+ store challenge, on which we’re (Covent Garden) currently sitting in 5th place.  The leaders in Glasgow are putting some serious miles in. Weathers getting...

More illness frustration....
Went out for a local “all you can eat” and two days later, proper stomach aches and sickness. Not good. Amazing how frustrating as missing a run or two can be when it’s out of your hands. Especially, when trying to contribute to your teams “Every mile counts” challenge total. Add to that a missed run the week before because of getting the wrong train, not a happy...
